Little Scientists Grade

Become a scientist! Through experiments and observations, students
explore the colourful world around them using scientific
tools.
Floating Fun Grade

Discover buoyancy and boats! Design your own “Titanic”,
discover what objects float and sink and much more water fun.
Magnificent Minerals Grade
3
Become a rock hound! Discover different rocks and minerals,
and find out how we use them every day.
Super Structures Grade
3
Students discover important elements of structures through
building, testing, and designing structures from different
materials.
Seashells to Sneakers Grade
4
Experience the story of the Athabasca oil sands. Students participate
in hands-on science activities, tours and model building
to enhance their knowledge of the oil sand industry.
Mighty Machines Grade
4
Become a design engineer and build simple machines that move.
Demonstrations and discussions round out this program.
Weather Watch Grade
5
Discover what weather is, how to predict it, identify types
of clouds, make clouds, crystals and lightening; test fabrics
that protect you from the weather!
Kids Chemistry Grade

Through discussion and fun, messy experiments, students will
discover what matter is, how to make and separate mixtures
and compounds, and create their own chemical reactions.
Taking Care of Wetlands Grade

Discover wetland life and become an environmental scientist
by doing water quality experiments.
Fly High Grade

Students are introduced to airplanes and the science of flight.
Through hands-on experiments and building, students will
discover how different shaped objects can stay aloft.
Forest Detectives Grade

Through discussion, games and science activities, students
will become aware of the forest ecosystem, trees of the boreal
forest and how land is reclaimed in the oil sands industry.
Fossils and Forces Grade

Discover how our planet was “shaped” by the forces
of erosion and what fossils can tell us about our prehistoric

Water rules on Planet Earth! Discover the power and importance
of water, the nature of aquatic systems and much more!

Go Batty Kindergarten to Grade 3
October 15 to November 12
This hands-on, minds-on, sensory based program introduces students
from Kindergarten to Grade 3 to the fascinating world of bats
and other night creatures. Through story telling and sensory
centres, the students discover the wonders of the bat.
Bugs Kindergarten
May and June
Discover what it is like to be an insect. Go on a bug hunt,
look at insect homes, build a bug, and much more “buggy
fun”! This is an outdoor program so please ensure students
are dressed appropriately.
Forensic Fun Grade 6
January 7 to February 6 -- 2 hour program
Become an amateur detective and solve a “real” Fort
McMurray crime. Examine evidence and find out whodunit... It’s
elementary, my dear Watson!

Nature
Needs Grade 1 – Outdoor Crate
Introduce students to the world of the boreal forest.
Through hikes, games, role playing, and other activities,
children become aware of the needs of plants and animals
in the boreal forest.
Little
Critters Grade 2
Through hikes, games, and role-playing, children become
aware of the small crawling and flying animals of the
boreal forest.
Magnet
Magic Grade 2
This “magnetizing” science crate creates
an awareness of the properties of magnets. Through fun,
hands-on activities and simple experiments, the children
discover magnetic poles, what is attracted to a magnet
and magnet force fields.
Circle
of Life Grade 3 – Outdoor Crate
Introduce students to the animals of the boreal forest.
Through games and exploring, they will discover how animals
change as they grow, and how they are adapted for life
in the forest.
Goofy
Gardening Grade 4
Explore soil, the needs of plants and the law of thermal
dynamics. Through discussion, skits and hands-on experiments,
students will discover the active ecosystem of soil.

Information and booking
- Programs are offered Tuesday
to Friday at the Centre.
- Programs are 1.5 hours in length.
- Education Programs are sponsored
by Albian Sands Energy.
Schools will not be charged fees this year.
- All programs must be booked
in advance on a first come/first serve basis. For
a better quality experience, we will only accept
single class visits.

- Parents/volunteers are required
to attend and assist the children with the program
activities
